These are the first in a series of images created with chalk on canvas. They are about the human impulse to erase painful memories and how that which is erased or crossed out remains as part of the texture of who we are. As a teacher, I write on chalk boards quite a bit. I am glad that white boards haven’t replaced all chalk boards! I find it to be profound after the class to erase the board and exit the room leaving a bit of smudge on the surface.
